Every Christmas tree needs a topper, but most of them are boring and generic. If you want something a little more unique, making it yourself is a great way to go, and a DIY Weeping Angel topper is a good twist on a classic, but not everyone is a Dr. Who fan.

One thing that everyone is a fan of is toilet paper, and that remaining cardboard tube might just be what the Christmas tree called for. Those toilet paper tubes are great for a variety of uses, like storing cords, holding your smartphone, and starting seeds, but they can also help you with your holiday decorating needs.

So, if you plan on making your own tree topper, it doesn't get much cheaper or simpler than this one by Ann Martin over on All Things Paper.

The process is pretty easy. Each of the four tubes is flattened, cut into ½-inch segments of different lengths, then spray-painted gold (or whatever color you prefer). The different size loops are hot glued together to make the snowflake shape and held in place with pins while they dry.
